On the 22nd of October 2021, the Duchess International Hospital in Ikeja, was launched – a state-of-the-art 100-bed fully ensuite hospital facility delivering a comprehensive range of primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare services across a wide variety of specialist and subspecialty areas.
The DUCHESS International is one of Nigeria’s most outstanding and purpose-built healthcare facilities in the heart of the Lagos mainland within the residential and industrial suburb of Ikeja – located at 22A Joel Ogunnnaike Street, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
The launch of the Hospital had a collection of renowned medical experts and prominent Nigerians, including the Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osibanjo, two State Governors: Babajide Sanwo-Olu – Lagos and Dapo Abiodun – Ogun; alongside the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, and the Managing Directors of the Bank of Industry – Olukayode Pitan and Access Bank – Herbert Wigwe, and Dr Yemi Onabowale, President and CEO of Reddington Hospitals, among others.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Hospital, the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, said, “Today joins the list of days when your belief is affirmed that ours is a country of world-class talent, world-class ideas and world-class execution of ideas; you feel so proud.
The newly-built Duchess International Hospital offers an opportunity to celebrate the convergence of so many additional possibilities, both for the individual seeking first-class healthcare at affordable prices and for medical personnel who desire to practice at global standards. I am extremely proud to be a part of this phenomenal achievement and the great future that it portends for healthcare services in Nigeria.
It is, therefore, my great pleasure and privilege to officially commission this state-of-the-art medical facility to the glory of God and for the benefit of Nigerians and all those who may seek excellent healthcare from anywhere in the world.”
As the VP officially commissioned the facility, he noted that it was comparable to the best hospitals in the world, both in medical and aesthetic standards.
The Duchess International Hospital’s well-appointed, ultra-modern facilities are located within a few minutes of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and close to some of the city’s leading hotel establishments and corporate organisations. DIH is accessible within 90 minutes by air from any state capital in Nigeria and just a couple of hours away from most major capital cities across West Africa.
The Duchess is located on eight floors in ultra-modern, well-appointed facilities subject to strict clinical governance guidelines. Its departments are very carefully resourced to provide the highest quality of care across a spectrum of sub-speciality disciplines, including neurology, interventional cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, paediatric intensive care, neurosurgery, renal dialysis, upper GI and colorectal surgery, interventional radiology, trauma & orthopaedics and urology.
The service is supported by five modular theatres, including dedicated facilities for caesarean section and cardiothoracic surgery, and state-of-the-art facilities for cardiac catheterisation, angiographic procedures and endoscopy. Other on-site services include stroke thrombolysis, ophthalmology, ENT, metabolic surgery, specialised dental services and dermatology.
The Duchess takes pride in its ethos as a learning organisation. The Learning & Development Centre focuses on continuous teaching and training culture. Its conferencing and virtual learning facilities are of the very highest standard. The theatre-style auditorium is a 150-seater audio-visual learning environment with direct (visual) communication with operating theatres, endoscopy and telemedicine facilities.
The auditorium serves as the central location for various teaching and training events throughout the year and for the Duchess International Hospital’s annual theatre production and concert at Christmas time.
At the Duchess International, we combine excellence in healthcare with a unique hospitality experience. We offer a highly personalised service to our patients and provide comprehensive complex care services tailored to individual needs.
Our deliberate and careful positioning is designed to solve the problem of access to affordable healthcare on behalf of local communities and provide a viable alternative to healthcare tourism for patients in Nigeria and across sub-Saharan Africa.
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu congratulated the management of the 100-bed multi-speciality healthcare facility as promoted by the Reddington Healthcare Group and Apollo Hospital India.
“The Duchess Hospital, according to the promoters will reverse medical tourism for Nigerians and provide affordable medical services like Orthopaedics, Neuro-surgery, cardiac surgery, Intensive Care, ENT, Radiology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology among others.
I congratulate the management and staff of Reddington Health Group for this feat and for making this massive investment.
Our focus has been on providing the right environment for private enterprise to flourish in Lagos as a government.
We will continue to initiate policies that will expand private investment in healthcare because we are convinced the best way to provide access to quality medical care for our people is when the private sector gets involved in the sector to compliment the government.” – Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Patients attending the Duchess hospital can expect to receive an excellent standard of healthcare combined with a unique hospitality experience.
Our focus is on six priority areas of action:
1. Providing access to robust and affordable healthcare.
2. Building strong systems of governance – both clinical and administrative.
3. Creating a robust and exceptional workforce – of world-class specialist consultants, nurses and support staff; and encouraging an environment of training and development to support our growth.
4. Investing in high-quality expertise and evidence-based treatments.
5. Making the most of advanced technology and superior infrastructure.
6. Maintaining a focus on the patient experience.
As highlighted by our CEO, Dr Tokunbo Shitta-Bey, at the launch; our mission “is to reverse medical tourism by delivering the highest standards of care, using the most advanced technology and treatments to give you the fastest, most convenient access to the best medical expertise available anywhere in the world.”
