On the evening of June 27th, 2025, the Eko Hotel Convention Centre in Lagos was filled with some of the brightest minds and most impactful organisations in Nigerian healthcare — all gathered to celebrate excellence, innovation, and dedication to patient care at the 11th annual Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Awards (NHEA).
For the second year in a row, Duchess International Hospital was proud to be named Private Tertiary Healthcare Facility of the Year, a recognition that underscores our steadfast commitment to transforming healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
The NHEA Awards are widely regarded as the gold standard of healthcare recognition in the country. This year, more than 35,000 nominations were received from across public and private healthcare institutions, with a rigorous selection process led by NHEA’s verification and visitation teams. In his opening remarks, Dr Anthony Omolola, Chairman of the Advisory Board for the NHEA, spoke of the remarkable standard of nominations this year and praised the efforts of all those working tirelessly to improve healthcare outcomes in Nigeria.

Accepting the award on behalf of the hospital, Dr Adetokunbo Shitta-Bey, Chief Executive Officer of Duchess International Hospital, expressed his appreciation to the organisers and reflected on what the win represents.
“To be recognised as the Private Tertiary Healthcare Facility of the Year for the second consecutive year, in just our fourth year of operations, is yet another validation of the excellent work being done by our medical and non-medical teams. At Duchess, we are driven by a mission to reverse medical tourism and deliver affordable, world-class healthcare that is accessible to all Nigerians.”
Dr Shitta-Bey further highlighted the hospital’s ongoing response to the challenge of capital flight in healthcare estimated at over $1.3 billion annually by investing in cutting-edge medical technology, attracting international clinical expertise, and delivering compassionate, patient-centred care locally.
“Nigerians deserve to receive the highest standards of care without the need to travel abroad. This award affirms that we are on the right path,” he said.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Dr Adedoyin Dosunmu-Ogunbi, Medical Director of Duchess International Hospital, emphasised the hospital’s unwavering commitment to its core values of professionalism, hard work, and patient-first care, while dedicating the award to the entire Duchess team and the patients who continue to trust the hospital with their health.
Since opening its doors in October 2021, Duchess International Hospital has consistently raised the bar for quality healthcare in Nigeria. As a state-of-the-art, 100-bed multi-specialist facility located in Ikeja GRA, Lagos, Duchess continues to lead the way in offering advanced clinical services and shaping the future of healthcare delivery in the country.
Winning the NHEA Private Tertiary Healthcare Facility of the Year award in both 2024 and 2025 is more than just a milestone; it is a testament to the courage, dedication, and expertise of the entire Duchess family, and a promise to continue delivering excellence in healthcare for years to come.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our staff, our patients, and all our stakeholders who have supported our vision and made this achievement possible.
At Duchess International Hospital, your health is our highest calling and together, we are redefining what is possible in Nigerian healthcare.
