The June 2025 Grand Round explores the evolving landscape of cancer care through a multidisciplinary lens—showcasing the critical collaboration between surgery, oncology, radiology, palliative care, and support teams in optimizing outcomes for patients with cancer. The session features compelling case-based experiences drawn from the surgical unit at Duchess International Hospital.
Four illustrative cases will be presented:
- A middle-aged woman with locally advanced rectal cancer, successfully managed through coordinated efforts between surgical, oncology, and palliative care teams, highlighting the importance of shared decision-making in tailoring patient-centered care.
- A young girl with a malignant gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST), where cross-specialty diagnostics, surgical expertise, and histopathological input led to timely and effective intervention.
- A middle aged woman with early breast cancer who got curative treatment.
- An elderly man with multiple cancers- adenocarcinoma of the Gall bladder and prostate who had excellent world class palliative care.
